BRUSSELS TEAM
Marc Astick

City coordinator

I am neuroscientist investigating brain development by growing ‘mini-brains’ in a dish. It’s the first time I’ve been involved in PoS and I’m really looking forward to being part of the team bringing it to Brussels!

Jérôme de Schauwers

Communication and Event Manager Planet Earth

Graduated as Bioengineer, specialized in cannibalism of ladybirds, I am today coordinating the scientific activities for schools and general public at Inforsciences Department, Université Libre de Bruxelles. For me there is no better way to exchange about science than with a glass of our fermented friend in the hand.

Event Manager

Atoms and Galaxies

I’m a PhD student trying to get neutrinos to show me the particle accelerators hiding in space. You can often find me tweaking plots and shouting at code. To calm down I make graphics, sing in a choir, and go for a beer afterwards. I’m always excited when someone wants to talk about physics and let their curiosity run free.

Event Manager

Our Body

I am a French guy lost in Belgium for more than 2 years.  I am bioinformatic PhD student working on Breast Cancer and more specifically on the comprehension of the biological heterogeneity of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). I love cycling, reading, drinking, science and most importantly PoS !

Romario Melo

Event Manager

Planet Earth

Scientist from the State of Bahia in Brazil. Postdoc at ULB, investigating how plants tell time without a watch. Fascinated by how science has changed and keeps changing the world! I like playing chess, guitar, soccer, running, gym, reading and, obviously, beer. Not by chance I picked Germany for a PhD and Belgium for a Postdoc.

Ermioni Dimitropoulou

Event Manager

Planet Earth

I am a PhD student in Environmental Physics, based in Belgium. My studies in Physics made me realize that science can be fun! I love pubs and geeky science talk so see you in a pub in May 2018.

Matteo Piumatti

Event Manager

Beautiful Mind

I am a Phd student in neuroscience at the ULB, working on brain development. After three years I learned that Bruxelles as a lot more to offer than just rain. I joined PoS because I believe that science should be something available to everyone and to share with everybody around you, just like a Belgian beer.

Arianna Picciali

Event Manager

Atoms and Galaxies

I’m a planetary scientist working at the Belgian Institute of Space Aeronomy. I investigate the atmospheres of Mars and Venus. In my free time I can’t stop from trying to convince everyone that our Solar System is wonderful! What a better way to do it than around a pint in Belgium?!

Marta Wojno

Event Manager

Beautiful Mind

I’m a PhD student trying to understand what makes the human brain so complex and beautiful. Beside playing with brains I love to have a good laugh with my friends.

I really hope to give you guys a good time during this first edition of PoS.

Alessia Gaetani

Event Manager

Our Body

Italian by birth but adopted by Belgium, I’m eco-biologist working in the Bioenergy field. As ecologist, I see Our Body as an ecosystem, an amazing open and multicultural community hosting bacteria, fungi and viruses (sic!). I’ve always been fascinated by research fields as (Eco)-Evo-Devo, Epigenetic and Evolutionary biology which teach us how the single organism is a story told by the environment surrounding it. On top of that I love cooking therefore I’ll work to change the name of the festival in “Bite of Science”!

Laura Saucedo-Cuevas

Event Manager

Our Body

I am a molecular biologist interested in preserving fertility in young girls and women. I recently moved from New York to Brussels and I could not imagine a better way to start this new phase. I am looking forward to flavor the evening beer with a pint of science!

Nevena Hristozova

Event Manager

Beautiful Mind

I am a scientific project manager in food safety by day, science communicator by night (blogger, podcast co-host, and podcast producer), and whenever the days have 36hours - working to finalise my PhD thesis looking on how plant stress proteins interact with partner components of the cell to make plants resistant to cold, draught or heat stress.

Adriana Sánchez-Danés

Event Manager

Our Body

I am a postdoctoral researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles. I study which cells develop skin cancer and how they are resisting the treatment. For me science is like a big puzzle and as researchers we have a role to play making its pieces fit together perfectly. If you want to learn more about all these pieces, come over and have a beer with us!

Federico Mauri

Event Manager

Our Body

I am a post-doc studying the molecular mechanisms of skin tumors. I love my job because I like to understand the biological reasons that are hidden behind the good or bad functioning of our body. I'm convinced that scientists shouldn't stay secluded in laboratories, but rather try to meet the public and discuss. Looking forward to meet people in Brussels!
